History of Sherman Oaks, CA

Before it’s development, the area that would be known as Sherman Oaks was primarily flatlands covered in wheat and wilderness. Plans for development started taking root in 1910 in response to the Los Angeles aqueduct and the potential land boom.

In 1927, Sherman Oaks was developed by General Moses Hazeltine Sherman, a partner in the Los Angeles Suburban Homes Company. Development was slow moving until the film industry started taking off in Hollywood and nearby cities.
