History of Valley Village, CA
Initially part of North Hollywood, Valley Village’s separated in 1991 and became its own neighborhood.
Valley Village’s history dates back to the 1930s when workers of nearby production studios would build houses in the area. It was officially founded in May 1939 when it received its articles of incorporation.
Later that year, a community beautification was enacted to create a model community with an array of amenities. Community preservation has been an important part of Valley Village’s past. Residents formed the Valley Village Homeowners Association (VVHA) in 1986 to combat the sudden increase of high-rise buildings in the area.
Back in 2015, the community was devastated when two of the oldest homes in the neighborhood (one of which was Marilyn Monroe’s former house) were illegally demolished to build way for a condominium development. The loss was more upsetting because said properties were being evaluated for landmark status by the Office of Historic Resources
Today, Valley Village residents work to preserve the things that make the neighborhood unique while continuously improving the quality of life.
